At 50 times the nominal thickness of 0.05 μm, it requires more metal and processing. The higher cost provides more wear margin before the brass base is exposed.

What is the difference between gold-plated brass and gold vermeil?
Gold-plated brass uses brass as the base material with a decorative gold layer applied to the surface. Gold vermeil is different: the base metal is sterling silver rather than brass. For brass necklaces, terms such as gold-plated brass or thick gold-plated brass should be used according to the actual plating specification.
