The short answer:<\/b><\/strong>\u00a0PVD relies on extreme heat (200\u00b0C-400\u00b0C+), high vacuum pressure (10\u207b\u00b3\u00a0to 10\u207b\u2075\u00a0Torr), and indiscriminate line-of-sight deposition. This environment is inherently hostile to pre-set stones\u2014regardless of their price tag.<\/p>

Even if you use extremely heat-resistant stones like moissanite, the PVD titanium or gold compounds will bond directly to the gemstone’s facets. This turns a brilliant, diamond-like moissanite into an\u00a0opaque, metal-colored lump<\/b><\/strong>.<\/p>

Technical Note\u200b<\/strong><\/p>

Moissanite has a refractive index of 2.65-2.69, higher than diamond (2.42). Its fire comes from light entering the stone and reflecting internally. Once the facets are coated with even a 0.1\u03bcm metal layer, light can no longer enter\u2014the stone becomes a mirror, not a gem.<\/p>
